Timothy B Schmit

Timothy B Schmit
Timothy Bruce Schmit (born October 30, 1947, in Oakland, California) is an American musician and songwriter, best known for his work as bass guitar player and singer for Poco and the Eagles. Schmit has also worked for decades as a session musician and solo artist. In 1998, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Eagles.

Raised in Sacramento, Schmit began playing in the folk music group Tim, Tom & Ron[1] at age 15. That group evolved into a surf band called the Contenders, then changed its name to the New Breed. As the New Breed they had one big radio hit, the catchy, Animals-inspired "Green Eyed Woman," released 1965. Changing its name once again to Glad, the group recorded the album Feelin' Glad in 1968.

In 1970, Schmit joined Poco, replacing founding member Randy Meisner on bass and vocals.[2] He wrote and was lead singer on the song "Keep On Tryin'," Poco's biggest hit single to that point, peaking at #50 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1975. Apart from Poco, Schmit also contributed vocals to Firefall's 1977 hit, "Just Remember I Love You."[3]

Schmit also played bass and sang backing vocals on several Steely Dan albums.

Timothy B. Schmit-Tell Me the Truth

Tell Me the Truth
What a Hidden Gem this album is for sure. I had always known Timothy B. Schmit for his other works with the Eagles & Poco. Upon hearing this Solo Album of his, my appreciation of the depths of his talent grew immensely. The lyrics to the songs found on here are so sincere. The song Tell Me The Truth in itself just speaks volumes. I cried the first time I heard this, such a beautiful song. I love the whole complete package brought together in these songs ~~ Timothy's voice, his music and Lyrics all perfectly knit together to make these songs touch you deep inside. I would recommend this album highly, it is a treasured keepsake for sure! I hope to hear more coming from Timothy! Thanks for all of these great songs! Timothy B. Schmit is by far one of the most talented artists around today. His pure, sweet voice and the great licks on the bass guitar are what makes him so special. It was nice to hear that he has always had his trademark sound, and even sounds better today. This album from almost 20 years ago stands up to anything anyone is doing now, and is a nice reminder of how songs sounded in the 80's, and yet has a contemporary feel to it. It would be a good choice to add to others by him, especially if you are a big fan.

Expando - Timothy B. Schmit

Expando
"Expando" is the solo album Timothy B. Schmit fans have been waiting for since 1980. Finally, Schmit has fully tapped into his great talent and experience, to produce a consistent set of songs that are thought provoking and entertaining. This time out, Schmit took charge of the production duties, wrote all the songs himself and played most of the instruments as well. The production is warm, but not slick, and the songs are mature and personal.

Schmit shows his instrumental prowess, playing quite an array of instruments on the album, including bass, acoustic guitar, lead and rhythm electric guitar, dobro, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, harmonica, electric piano, percussion and drums. For those vocal and instrumental parts he wanted some help with, he imagined the ideal collaborators and simply called them up and asked. Being very well-respected in the industry, Schmit's offer was accepted by nearly everyone he called: Graham Nash, Kid Rock, Dwight Yoakam, Van Dyke Parks, Keb' Mo', Jim Keltner, Benmont Tench, Garth Hudson, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Gary Burton, Greg Leisz and the Blind Boys of Alabama.

It might be easy for such a project to turn into more of a showcase for the individuals involved than a cohesive artistic statement. However, Schmit was committed to serving the songs and successfully guided all that talent to produce a fine album that is at turns rootsy, charming, fun, introspective and sweet. And of course there is Schmit's gorgeous, expressive high tenor voice, still in fine form. This is an album not just for fans of Schmit and his current and former bands (Eagles, Poco), but for fans of folk-rock, country-rock, singer-songwriters and old-fashioned professional singing and musicianship.

Feed the Fire- Timothy B. Schmit

Feed the fire
This TBS solo work really shines in the category of quality music. To put it summarily: FTF is a body of work that showcases his musical genius and unique style. The vocals are, as usual, very strong, melodic, and expressive. The bass lines are innovative and very catchy, and he also plays some very good guitar on several songs. The covers - Make You Feel My Love and You are Everything - are very well done; his versions may well be the paragon for these songs. He has infused these covers with a musical flavor that is 100% his own (read: quality and excellence), thus his takes on these songs totally warrant outstanding remakes of these classic tunes. The acapella song - Top Of The Stairs - is creative and engrossing in its elaborateness. Song For Owen is an extremely expressive and beautiful piece. It really does justice to the idea of a musical expression of a loving parent-child relationship. The Shadow (one of the songs on which TBS plays guitar) has some hauntingly beautiful guitar lines and a powerful, inspirational message. The other songs on this album are, similarly, masterpieces. Each one is so extremely intricate in composition that after months of listening to this album on a regular basis I am still finding new reasons to appreciate it. Positively recommended!!!
