Blackfoot-After the reign

After the reign
When Blackfoot released the previous album, called "Medicine man" in 1990, they had been silent for many years, and the only remaining original member was singer/guitarist Rick Medlocke. After another four years, Blackfoot's "After the reign" came out and still Medlocke was the only original member.

"After the reign" can be described as a (modern) southern rock effort, but not of the same quality shown on albums like "Strikes", "Marauder" or "Siogo". The production is good but rather slick and the material is alright but not that thrilling I was hoping for. I would say that it's an overall good album, better than both "Tomcattin" and "Vertical smiles", but not quite as good as the previous "Medicine man" - an album with better songs.

Rick Medlocke have joined Lynyrd Skynyrd as you probably know, and maybe "After the reign" is not only the latest but the last Blackfoot album ever. That would indeed be a pity, but if Blackfoot decide to make a come back I sure hope it will be the original line up...

After the Reign is another very good Medlocke album. Not his very best but very good. Song After the Reign is good as is Sitting on Top of the World, Nobody Rides for Free. An album that die hard Medlocke and Blackfoot fans should have.
